More than 90 butterfly species native to Belize have been reared for display at Green Hills. However, we have found that due to time and space limits, is is very difficult to actively rear more than 30 species at a time. Also seasonality has a lot do do with the amount of species reared. During the dry season (February through May) many species will stop reproducing attempting to pass the dry season as a non-reproducing adult. Consequently, the number of species actively being reared drops as the dry season progresses and increases once the rains have started (see weather data for Belize). The list of 55 species below gives a good impression of the species most frequently reared at Green Hills.

Pupae reared at Green Hills are no longer supplied to live butterfly displays
