Belize is a small
country but it is known for its high biodiversity, meaning
that there are many species found in a small area. There
exists much information on Belize's biodiversity but this
can be difficult to find. This site hopes to remedy this
problem and together with related
links to quality sites, the goal is to provide a
comprehensive source of information about the biodiversity
of Belize.
Belize Tropical Forest Studies (BTFS) has
conducted considerable research in this area. Research
has taken the form of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA),
Rapid Environmental Assessments (REA) or similar (see Projects).
Clients include developers, conservation organizations,
government, funding agencies and others. Our research covers
numerous areas associated with terrestrial biodiversity
and the results provide an overall view of our activities
in Belize.
In doing so we present an overview of the status of biodiversity
in Belize. This comes in the form of published research
papers and taxonomically arranged species
lists for Belizean species
